We are pleased to announce Jonathan Kerchenski (Coach “K”) is now our Head Coach of Boys and Girls Tennis at St. Francis High School. He has served as an assistant tennis coach for the past two years at SFHS and has more than 20 years of coaching experience overall.
In his home state of Georgia, Coach K played collegiate tennis for all four years and then began coaching national level players at some of the highest-performance academies in metro Atlanta. After many years, he accepted a Director of Tennis position at a club in Charlotte, North Carolina. While living in Charlotte and still playing competitively, Coach K and his team won the USTA 4.5 North Carolina State Championship.
In summer of 2015, Coach K moved to Chicago and accepted a leadership role at the Vaughan Athletic Center in Aurora. In 2022, he then accepted the Director of Racquets position with the Hanover Park adult and junior tennis programs, which also had a thriving pickleball program.
In the fall of 2023, he began coaching at St. Francis, and in 2024 began helping with summer camp and was head coach of girls JV Blue team.
Coach K and his wife, Brianna, live in Bartlett. He is also currently the Head Racquets Professional at Glen Oak Country Club in Glen Ellyn. His passions are Jesus, (road) biking, working out, watches, coffee, and learning about different languages and cultures (he is fluent in Spanish).
“For 20-plus years, most of my career has been teaching and developing tournament level players on the tennis court. Working at St. Francis has been a beautiful start to this new season of my life. The positive feedback that I have received from players, parents, and admin is truly encouraging. I believe in hard work and discipline, but I also believe in having fun and helping to create lifelong memories for the players. To all the players, parents, and admin, thank you for your vote of confidence and confirming me for this role. Colossians 3:23 says “whatever you do, do it wholeheartedly as unto the Lord.” This will be my guiding verse as how I will operate as a leader, coach, and co-worker. Let’s go, Spartans!”
Please join us in welcoming Coach K when you see him out on the courts and in our halls this spring!
