Fr. Jim Murphy

Father Jim Murphy is the pastor of St. Isidore parish in Bloomingdale, beginning August 2010. He has been associated with St. Francis High School since 1983 through sacramental celebrations, school liturgies and the KAIROS retreats since their beginning at St. Francis. 

Originally from St. John the Baptist parish in Winfield, Father Jim was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Joliet in May 1978 at St. Raymond Cathedral in Joliet. Previous assignments include Pastor of Immaculate Conception parish and Immaculate Conception High School in Elmhurst (1999-2010), Parochial Vicar at St. James the Apostle parish in Glen Ellyn (1988-1992), Parochial Vicar at St. Isidore parish in Bloomingdale (1983-1988) and Parochial Vicar at St. Andrew the Apostle parish in Romeoville (1978-1983). From 1992-1999 he served in the Archdiocese of Chicago as Associate Dean of Formation and Spiritual Director at Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein, IL. He also taught courses in the Pastoral Life and Christian Life departments. While on the Mundelein Seminary faculty, he served as a weekend associate at St. James the Apostle parish in Glen Ellyn. 

Additional areas of ministry include Joliet Diocesan Marriage Preparation Ministry (Becoming One Workshops (1978-1983) and Catholic Engaged Encounter (1983-1999), Diocesan Vocation Director (1990-1992) and Vocation Team (1992-present). He also serves on the Board of Directors of LaSalle Manor Retreat Center in Plano, IL (2014-present). 

Academically, Father Jim earned his BA from Benedictine University in Lisle (1974) and his MDiv from St. Meinrad School of Theology in Indiana (1978). He also holds Certificates in Spiritual Direction from Mercy Center in Burlingame, CA (1994) and the Institute for Priestly Formation at Creighton University, Omaha, NE (1995). He is a graduate of “Good Leaders, Good Shepherds” of the Catholic Leadership Institute, Wayne, PA (2008-2010).
