Scott Nelson, who coached Cross Country and Track at St. Francis High School for 35 years, has been voted into the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association (ITCCCA) Hall of Fame!

Nelson, along with seven other Illinois coaches, will be inducted at the annual ITCCCA Hall of Fame Banquet on January 11, 2025.
According to ITCCCA, more than 40 coaches were nominated for the honor. Each of the candidates was discussed at length with a focus on the three Cs: coaching record, contribution to the sports outside of coaching, and character. The selection meeting takes place in October each year by a committee of 17 Hall of Fame coaches from throughout Illinois.

Nelson has instilled life skills in his student-athletes and positively impacted countless students and families over the years.

His teams won three IHSA state trophies, he coached 10 individual state champions, and his athletes earned State medals on 95 different occasions. His cross country teams earned Top 10 finishes on 18 occasions. Nelson was twice-named ITCCCA Coach of the Year.

Nelson retired from coaching in 2023 after his 35th year at SFHS and 40 years in coaching overall.
